| With the Francoist occupation there begins the hardest stage
for nationalism, along with a period of fierce repression of all signs of Basque identity.
For to the brutal repression both political and social one must add the persecution that
would be suffered by any representation of history, folklore, customs, or language. We see
an example of this destructive strategy in the confiscation of Sabin Etxea and its reuse
as headquarters of the Falangist movement and Social Assistance. |
