In 1857 Santiago Arana Ansotegi, owner of a thriving shipyards on the Nervión Estuary, decides to build the family dwelling in the then No. 10 Ibáñez de Bilbao.

It is here that Sabino Arana spends his childhood and youth, with intervals made necessary by the family's exile, first, and the changes of residence owing to his studies and to various family circumstances.
